Miina’s research focuses on food systems and their impact on both the ecosystem and human well-being. At GEDB, Miina is working on various projects exploring nutritional aspects and resilience of the global food system.
Miina has a background in water and environmental engineering. Her dissertation, completed in 2016, explored the impacts of water scarcity and agricultural trade for global food availability in the twentieth century. Apart from food system studies, her more recent research has focused on anthropogenic pressures on the Earth System, utilizing the Planetary Boundaries framework and focusing particularly on the Planetary Boundary for freshwater.
