Annual Report 2023

The year 2023 saw a sad record, with 63 major weather-related disasters hitting the world, each resulting in billions of dollars in damage. It is becoming increasingly clear that the costs of these events are being exacerbated by reduced capacity of natural ecosystems to buffer the rapid fluctuations and extremes appearing in the wake of a changing climate.

The strong interconnections between the biosphere, the climate and global economic dynamics are at the very heart of research conducted at the GEDB Academy programme. As in previous years, in 2023 our team worked hard to deliver new scientific insights that can inspire real change in practice and policy.

Our research has shown how global health, biodiversity and antibiotic resistance can be approached from a systems perspective. The insights gained have been fed into dialogues with policy makers and practitioners in Sweden and internationally.
